Plans for a Teen Zone at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s Rainbow Ward are starting to take shape. Artist impressions of the Teen Zone can now be released to show how the bespoke room will be fitted out with brightly coloured walls, comfortable couches and even a games console.
Staffs, members of the public and local businesses alike, have raised funds over the past year for the room’s proposed transformation. From a 20 mile walk from Wigan Pier to Southport Pier to Three Wishes’ Albert the Bear taking to the pitch at a Wigan Warrior’s match the fundraising efforts have all had a shared goal.
Even local schools have gotten involved in the fundraising efforts with Standish High School raising over £1000 in just a few short months last year.
Fundraising Manager, Janet Pennington, said: “I’d like to thank everybody that has helped us raise money so far for Rainbow Ward’s Teen Zone.
“Now that the designs have come through we can really see it starting to take shape and it makes everyone’s hard work worthwhile.
“We’ve had a lot of support from local businesses including Torque UK and Miliken who have both given us really generous donations which have helped us get to this point.”
But the fundraising isn’t over yet as Janet is planning on a rainbow themed event later in the year to make sure that the Teen Zone is well enough equipped to meet the needs of today’s teenagers.
Speaking about her future plans Janet added: “We’ve really made great progress but we don’t want to stop now.
“Being a teenager in hospital is never easy but the Teen Zone will offer a place where our teenagers on Rainbow Ward can relax away from the noise of such a busy ward.
“Rainbow Ward is close to a lot of people’s hearts so I’m hoping that when it comes to planning our Rainbow Festival that we see a lot of the public and local community joining in with our staff to help us reach our goal.”
