Katy Cain joins smart health tech provider Alcidion as a clinical consultant and will help ensure the company’s products continue to proactively respond to the needs of NHS clinicians.
A senior nurse with more than 20 years’ experience in the NHS has joined smart health tech provider Alcidion in a core role as a clinical consultant primarily working with the UK team.
Katy Cain joins Alcidion from East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, where she held a wide range of posts in clinical roles, most recently as a modern matron for the trust’s cardiology directorate.
Cain, who also actively supported the adoption of new technologies in her nursing positions, will maintain close relationships with clinicians in NHS hospitals, to ensure frontline requirements in the UK are proactively fed into Alcidion’s product roadmaps. She will also continue to cover shifts part-time as a nurse to support colleagues through the ongoing challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.

As a healthcare professional, I felt this was the first time I had seen technology that would make a big difference to clinicians and a tech company that really has clinicians at heart.

The move comes as Alcidion is expanding its reach in the NHS, following the formal UK launch of Miya Precision last summer as the first smart clinical asset for the NHS. The product integrates information from healthcare organisations’ current systems, uses it to automate routine tasks, care plans and pathways and overlays existing data with advanced clinical decision support to make otherwise static information clinically valuable. It also makes the most of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
The company’s Miya Observations and Miya Assessments modules – formerly known as Patientrack – are already used in more than 40 hospitals, where doctors and nurses have innovated with the system to improve patient safety, with significant impact on preventing patient deterioration, reducing adverse events such as cardiac arrests, and in tackling deadly conditions, including sepsis and acute kidney injury.
