And, Doctor Seaweed AKA Marine Biologist Dr Craig Rose, completely agrees…
Prince William has been celebrating seaweed recently, posting that seaweed is “one of the most abundant resources on the planet, and a potential solution to some of the biggest environmental problems felt across the world.” The Prince also recognised seaweed as a sustainable, British, resource providing incredible nutrition along with a plethora of other benefits.
The Prince of Wales visited Cardiff where entrepreneurs gathered to discuss investment in the sector and display products based on “the superpower of seaweed”. Harvesting the plant is a Welsh tradition which dates back hundreds of years but the environmental benefits of sustainable farming of the marine weed means there’s a push for the industry to expand.
Doctor Seaweed AKA Marine Biologist Dr Craig Rose says “As a marine biologist, I have long recognised the opportunities His Royal Highness is now seeing with our incredible British seaweed resource. This is why my Doctor Seaweed brand was born, to bring people the very best organic Scottish seaweed as nutritional supplements that can address huge nutritional deficiencies most of us experience, and overall ensure you will look and feel wonderful with seaweed. Whilst many may associate seaweed with some Asian cuisine, it was actually a British scientist in the 1950s, Kathleen Drew-Barker, who worked out how to grow nori seaweed that is used for sushi, and that led to the multi-billion dollar seaweed industry across countries such as Japan and South Korea. As such, we have a well established history with seaweed, and with the Prince of Wales now onboard too, it will not be long before we see this, the original superfood, on all our supermarket shelves.”
With a global population increasing and climate change threatening food security, seaweed is now entering the stage as the latest sustainable superfood. Most of us are familiar with seaweed in sushi, but seaweed has long been part of the daily diet in China and Japan. In fact, one-fifth of the meals consumed in Japan (which has the 2nd highest life expectancy in the world) contains a form of edible seaweed.
Seaweed has often been overlooked in the Western Hemisphere, but it packs a super nutritious punch and is incredibly rich in iodine, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. This is why Doctor Seaweed created his supplement range which contains 100 percent pure, sustainably sourced Scottish seaweed.
This all-natural, vegan-friendly supplement is a naturally good and simple way to incorporate essential food-based iodine, vitamins and minerals into the daily diet to greatly optimise thyroid health, metabolism and cognitive function, as well as improve the overall health and appearance of skin, nails and hair.
The main key superfood nutrient of Doctor Seaweed Pure Seaweed is iodine, which has proven to be lacking in most British diets and is found in abundance in seaweed. It is estimated that 84 percent of women are below the lower reference nutrient intake of iodine, and deficiencies have been shown to greatly impact thyroid function, which controls the body’s metabolism and many other important functions, including energy levels, immunity, cognitive function and hair, skin and nail health. Low levels of iodine can be a cause of brittle hair and nails, sensitivity to cold, weight gain, tiredness and low energy.
Other valuable nutritional benefits of increasing your vitamin sea-weed include:
Vitamins and minerals – Seaweed contains vitamins, such as A, D, E, C and B, and minerals, including calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron. Additionally, seaweed may be a valuable source of vitamin B12 for vegans, who are at risk of deficiency, as B12 is usually found in animal products. Seaweed is also a source of sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, iodine, potassium, iron and zinc. In fact, because of seaweed’s unique properties, its mineral content is higher than land vegetables.
Heart health – Certain compounds in seaweed, in particular fucoidan, fucoxanthin, astaxanthin and phlorotannin, may have a protective effect on the heart, according to a 2021 review in Phytomedicine Plus. Seaweed also contains EPA, a type of omega-3 fatty acid. EPA is important for our cardiovascular health and triglycerides. It can improve our good cholesterol. EPA is found in fatty fish, like tuna and salmon, so seaweed is a great alternative for vegans.
Doctor Seaweed added, “Based on our own dedicated and sustainable supply in the pristine Scottish Outer Hebrides, my seaweed supplements are the gold-standard of seaweed, and each capsule contains nothing but organic Scottish seaweed in a plant-based organic capsule shell plus other natural plant-based nutrients. Seaweed is a forgotten food that for thousands of years has benefited our health and wellness. As a marine biologist, I am passionate about bringing you the natural health benefits of seaweed.”
To feel the benefits of this sustainable superfood from the sea, take one capsule a day.
