NHS outsourcers who’ve committed to full pay for health workers who self-isolate
Tens of thousands of outsourced workers across the NHS will not be left to suffer on poverty sick pay says GMB Union
GMB, the union for NHS staff, has secured another big win for workers after private outsourcing company Medirest promised full pay for all health workers self-isolating due to coronavirus.
The private company joins other NHS outsourcers ISS, Sodexo, Interserve, Serco and Mitie in guaranteeing full pay following GMB pressure.
All eyes are on contractors Engie, OCS, Serco, the patient transport firms and the social care providers who must now agree to GMB demands. They leave workers with the devastating choice – put food on the table or come to work even if they believe they are infected with COVID-19.
Lola McEvoy, GMB Organiser, said: “This is another fantastic GMB win for workers.
“Almost all major NHS contractors have now agreed to do the decent thing and help keep the British public safe by giving full pay from day on for anyone self-isolating.
“Tens of thousands of outsourced workers across the NHS will not be left to suffer on poverty sick pay while this crisis unfolds – and that’s the direct result of GMB members hard fought campaign.”
