New research from Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of care and housing for older people, reveals a startling trend. Our national love of tea is greater than the nation’s knowledge of their own family histories.
Our collective love of tea is strongly embedded in family habits and preferences – 53% of tea drinkers only started drinking tea because of their family1. Yet while 64% of tea drinkers know how family members take their tea, only 53% know about their family history2.
In response, Anchor is calling on the nation to harness our love of tea to tackle this issue – by chatting to family members over a cuppa and sharing an image along with an interesting fact about their family history on social media using #TalesOverTea.
To make sure it’s not just tea preferences that get passed down through the generations, Anchor and Tea from the Manor have created two fresh new tea blends in collaboration with Anchor’s residents. These include a warming Lemon and Ginger Tea with hints of hibiscus and apple, as well as a refreshing Red Berries blend encompassing grapes, elderberries, blackcurrants and blueberries Anchor Tea will be available for residents to enjoy with loved ones.

I’m so pleased that residents have been able to be involved in a tea-tasting process to create two of our very own unique blends of Anchor Tea. We’re encouraging everyone to take some time to chat with loved ones about their family histories, especially over a cuppa – many of us will be amazed by what we discover.”
