A revolutionary new tech startup that provides 24/7 contactless health monitoring for elderly care has been developed by a University of Southampton researcher who was inspired by personal concerns for the health of his elderly grandfather.
Alexandar Todorov founded SilaTech alongside Georgi Pachov and Plamen Dimitrov. The radar-based solution is easily positioned in a residence not unlike a smoke detector. It then instantly detects falls and changes in vital signs such as heart rate, and issues alerts both in room and to designated contacts.
Being contactless, the device negates issues that current monitors face in that it isn’t worn and so can’t be removed. Moreover, the company’s proprietary algorithm can predict a range of health issues early enabling carers to take preventative action.
Currently falls and illness while unattended are the leading causes of hospital visits worldwide by the elderly. Silatech is looking to support elderly residents and carers at the 17,000 care homes in the UK and hope to secure funding to then go on to serve the estimated 84 million elderly people living alone in the Western world who would benefit from this innovation.
SilaTech will be one of six tech startups looking to impress investors and mentors at the Future Worlds Demo Day on 11th June during London Tech Week.
