Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust was supported by The Galleries Shopping Centre in Wigan, as they raised money for our Rainbow Ward earlier this year.
Lynda Kenyon, Centre Administrator, at The Galleries Shopping Centre, wanted to raise money for Rainbow Ward as it is a charity close to her heart, adding she “wants to look after the kids of Wigan”.
The staff involved cycled over 230 miles on stationary bikes and rowing machines – the equivalent of cycling to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
The cycling took place over a period of six days in June and “everyone got involved,” said Lynda.
Also at the event, was a raffle and tombola, with prizes donated by local shops. Punch and Judy also made an appearance, as well as face painting, sweet stalls and outdoor food.
Lynda said; “the whole day went really well, especially the stalls we had on the Saturday.”
The Galleries Shopping Centre raised over £260 which has been donated to Rainbow ward.
Heather Dineley, a Paediatric Sister at Rainbow Ward, said the money is going to be used towards building a teen zone within the ward.
The teen zone will be open to ages 11-16, and will allow teenagers to chill out. Soft furnishing, game consoles and televisions will be allocated in the zone.
