Crowstone House residential care home in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, celebrated winning first place in the NHS Red Bag Front Sheet competition, a new initiative transforming the hospital transfer pathway for care home residents.
The Mayor of Southend Borough Council, Councillor Derek Jarvis, presented Crowstone House with the first prize; a pair of hoist weighing scales and an arranged interactive visit from NHS robot, Pepper, to entertain residents.
Home Manager, Ajam Karim and his team at Crowstone House were overjoyed to receive the news; “We are delighted to be chosen as winners. The Crowstone House team and residents all enjoyed working together to design a Front Sheet for the new NHS Red Bag initiative which is such a valuable scheme!”
The NHS Red Bag scheme was introduced to improve the hospital transfer pathway, making the care handover process much more efficient and completely personalised to each resident being cared for. Records show that patients who arrive at hospital with a Red Bag benefit from a faster pre-assessment resulting in receiving treatment sooner and the length of stay in hospital can be significantly reduced.
The Red Bag holds key information about a residents condition and needs, plus any medication they are taking. The bags also contain personal possessions, clothing and essential items important for their comfort, wellbeing and understanding of their surroundings and treatment. Crowstone house are delighted to win the competition,
Runwood Homes are fully supportive of this fantastic scheme and were pleased to partner with Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on the launch of the Red Bag scheme. A high standard of care for our residents is of utmost importance at all times and the NHS Red Bag provides us with care handover confidence for any hospital stays required.
