Clarion UK, a nationwide British Sign Language provider and specialist support agency, has played a vital role in a student’s graduation from university.
Samantha Lucas discovered she has dyslexia during her time at Nottingham Trent University, who referred to Clarion UK for assistance. The team matched her with Amanda Holt, a Specialist Study Skills Tutor, who helped her gain the skills she needed to process information in more effective ways. Study Skills Tutors provide practical academic support in time management, organisation, reading, memory strategies and planning.
In doing so, Amanda helped Samantha to achieve great things in her academic life as well as grow into a more confident individual socially, “When a student receives a diagnosis of dyslexia whilst at university it can be a setback, but also an answer to years of frustration”, said Amanda. “Clarion offer the most incredible service. As a freelancer, I know if ever I have an enquiry or need support, there is always somebody on the end of the phone. It is a pleasure and an honour to work with the Clarion Team.”
Specialising in working with students with complex and challenging disabilities, the Clarion UK team assist students with interview preparation and provide continuous support right through to graduation.
Clarion UK created a short video (which can be viewed below) in collaboration with Samantha, discussing all aspects of her journey with dyslexia and the struggles she has faced throughout life. The documentary focusses on her diagnosis, specialist techniques that she has learned and insight into what her achievements and success felt like. Samantha commented “I’m a graduate now and I don’t think I would’ve got there without the support I have received.”
Samantha’s experience gives a glimpse into the work that Clarion UK provides in over 100 universities to over 900 students across the country; who have specific learning disabilities, mental health issues and sensory impairments. The team works with a network of professional freelance partners and aims to give students the tools and support they need to reach their full potential in a stress-free learning environment.
Chloe Winyard, Marketing Executive at Clarion UK, says “Listening to Samantha and hearing how the right support can have such an impact is what inspires universities and colleges across the UK to engage with our team of experts. It’s always great to learn where students that have received support are now and the progress they have made.”
