Earlier this year, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) was delighted to support crews from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) as they filmed for series four of TV’s ‘Ambulance’ documentary.
Filming took place at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary Wigan with NWAS control staff and ambulance crews from across Greater Manchester.
Staff from WWL were delighted to be given the opportunity to participate in the programme alongside their NWAS colleagues, and welcomed the opportunity to showcase the important work of the emergency services.
Amanda Ahmed, WWL Accident and Emergency Matron said: “The film crew was as unobtrusive as possible and completely respected patient dignity.
“They acted with integrity and avoided any possible delay in patients being accepted to our A&E department from NWAS to receive treatment.”
The ‘Ambulance’ series gives viewers the opportunity to see both WWL’s and NWAS’ dedicated staff caring for patients and dealing with the challenges of ever increasing demand in healthcare.
Zoe Callan, Executive Producer for Dragonfly Productions, who produced the programme for the BBC, was extremely grateful for the access and commended the politeness and professionalism shown by WWL staff when crews attended the Wigan Infirmary site.
She was also impressed with the comradery and competence of colleagues between both WWL and NWAS to ensure patients were handed over as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Zoe said: “The filming inside Wigan allowed us to show more of the care and dedication all NHS staff show to the patients that they help.
“The whole Dragonfly team is very proud of the series and we are so grateful for everyone’s help and efforts in making this series – we would not have been able to produce such a brilliant series without the support of WWL staff.”
The first documentary of the weekly series will be broadcast on BBC One on Thursday 18 October at 9pm.
