What does Nano mean?
The term “Nano” is a unit prefix meaning “one billionth” or a factor of 10-9 (0.000000001). Its minuscule measurement is most often used in science and electronics for prefixing units of time and length. To put it in context, one nanometer is approximately equivalent to the length that a fingernail grows in one second. In fact, if a toy marble were scaled down to one nanometer wide, the Earth would scale down to only about 1 meter wide.
What is a Nanoparticle?
A nanoparticle is an ultrafine particle sized between 1 to 100 nanometers (nm) in diameter that are too small to be seen with the naked eye or conventional microscopes. Examples of naturally occurring nanoparticles can be found in asbestos, volcanic ash, ocean spray, fine sand and dust and even biological matters such as viruses.
The thing that makes nanoparticles so interesting for man-made applications is that materials in nanosize have properties (optical, chemical, magnetic, biological, electrical, and mechanical) that are completely different from the properties of the same material in bulk. As a result, nanotechnology has been used for water purification, advanced computer chip technology, long-lasting mobile phone batteries, diagnose of diseases, better surgical tools, targeted delivery of medicine and more. Nanoparticles can even be designed to have desired properties such as targeting specific cells or give a controlled drug release. The particles can also be made of biodegradable materials which allows the body to metabolize and dispose of easily.
The Nanotechnology in Voon CBD hemp pouches
The human body is an intricate system and it takes more than just the size of a particle to determine the effectiveness of its absorption. The amount that reaches the body’s systemic circulation highly depends on the particle’s ability to dissolve in water (hydrophilicity) or oil (lipophilicity). The particles must be sufficiently hydrophilic to dissolve in body fluids at the site of absorption, but also sufficiently lipophilic to pass biological membranes. Take traditional Snus as an example, a form of smokeless tobacco inside a pouch that is placed under the upper lip for release. Since the Snus’s active component nicotine has both hydrophilic and lipophilic properties, it can easily pass through the mucous membranes under the lip and be rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream.
However, the active components of Cannabis (THC, CBD, CBG, etc.) are lipophilic in nature and are therefore not easily absorbed from a pouch under the lip. This is why Voon has utilized a unique nano-technology in its CBD hemp pouches to alter the oily nature of cannabinoids into a water-soluble form for a fast release from the pouch. The small sizes of the nanoparticles then allow direct passage across the biological membranes under the lip and gums, and direct absorption into the blood stream. In other words, Voon users can enjoy the benefits of its hemp contents quicker and more effectively.
To make the most out of each Voon CBD hemp pouches, wedge the pouch between the upper gum and inner lip and leave for 30-45 minutes to ensure a full release of the contents and flavour. While each Voon pouch offers 20mg of nano-infused CBD hemp, the recommended daily dosage will depend on the individual’s body and as advised by the doctor when applicable. Voon white hemp CBD pouches are available in 4 flavours of Fresh Mint, Snazzy Tangerine, Pink Grape and Wintergreen.
