Following a competitive tender, Static Systems Group has been awarded the contract to supply and install nurse call systems and bedhead services trunking at the new £350 million Grange University Hospital in South Wales.
When construction is complete, the hospital, which will include a 24-hour acute Assessment Unit and Emergency Department, will provide complex specialist and critical care treatment for over 600,000 people in South-East Wales.
Static Systems was awarded the contract by Crown House Technologies on behalf of Laing O’Rourke, who were appointed as the main contractor by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in November 2017. The contract will see Static Systems’ Fusion IP Ultima™ nurse call system and Ventura bedhead services trunking installed throughout the new 471-bed hospital.
Static Systems’ Ultima nurse call system will be fully integrated into the Trust’s Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure, delivering cost savings by sharing the infrastructure wiring and equipment and enabling the client to manage nurse call alongside all of its other shared IP services. The nurse call system will provide full end-to-end IP to the bed and will allow interfacing and connectivity to a third party VoIP telephone system. Ultima is a true ‘plug & play’ solution allowing individual devices to be hot swapped while the system is live and without the need to power it down.
The principles of offsite construction are being fully embraced on this project: Static Systems has been working closely with Laing O’Rourke to enable nurse call to be fully installed into the bathroom pods being built for this hospital. Each pod’s nurse call is commissioned offsite, enabling it to be easily connected into the main system as part of the final installation process. Furthermore, Static Systems will manufacture and assemble all of the bedhead trunking off site at its extensive manufacturing facility in Wombourne, Staffordshire. In both instances, adopting this approach means product quality can be carefully controlled, the products are fully populated ready for installation and the delivery and install process is smoother.
Construction at Grange University Hospital, designed by architect BDP, is due to be completed in 2020, with the first patients due to be received during the spring of 2021.
