Makaton is a unique language program which uses signs and symbols to support children and adults with differing communication needs. It is one of the courses provided by BB Training, an award-winning education provider and part of the Busy Bees Group.
Staff from the head-office of the ‘outstanding’ graded national training provider recently took part in learning some Makaton themselves from their expert colleagues and have now filmed a cover of ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’ using the sign language.
Every year, the courses BB Training offer have the potential to make a real difference to people’s lives, job prospects and well-being. BB Training Makaton tutor, Rebecca Walker, has been instrumental to the cause throughout 2019, overseeing successful Makaton courses and delivering workshops at leading national events such as Childcare Expo in both Manchester and Coventry. She said, “Not being able to communicate can make an individual very angry or frustrated as they are unable to convey what they want or how they feel. Using Makaton helps to overcome this through effective communication”.
The goal of the short video, filmed and edited by BB Training staff, is to further raise awareness and the profile of the education in a fun way, whilst also wishing good tidings to learners, clients and employees.
Gary Pluck, BB Training Director of Communications & Business Development, says, “Supporting children and adults with communication difficulties is incredibly rewarding and our staff enjoyed learning the signs and symbols to share this alternative system of communication.
