Orri, a specialist clinic in London’s prestigious Harley Street Medical Area, has opened a new state-of-the-art day treatment facility on Wimpole Street in Central London for patients seeking support for eating disorders. The new clinic will provide both in-person and online treatment for patients.
The new six storey, purpose-built and trauma informed space houses the clinic’s intensive day treatment programme, facilitating individual and group therapy sessions, as well as meals and dietetic support. The original centre on Hallam Street in London has since become the home of its new in-person outpatient services, offering one-to-one sessions with eating disorder specialists.
All programmes follow a ‘stepped approach’, meaning that treatment evolves with each individual client as they progress in recovery. The treatment blends evidence-based and innovative approaches together, incorporating the latest research and the clinic’s own Research & Development, to ensure clients are offered best-in-class treatment for recovery.
The programmes draw upon a number of therapeutic modalities to understand and overcome the underlying cause of the eating disorder whilst healing the day-to-day, behavioural symptoms in tandem, ensuring a holistic and sustainable recovery process.
The new clinic on Wimpole Street offers intensive day treatment both online and in person for people aged 16 and above.
Kerrie Jones, founder and CEO of Orri, said: “Orri was founded to offer a new choice of outstanding and innovative treatment for eating disorder recovery. It is for this reason that we were drawn to the Harley Street Medical Area and Howard de Walden for their long-standing community of pioneering healthcare professionals who hold one another accountable to providing expert care.”
Eating disorders continue to represent the highest mortality risk of any psychiatric condition. It is believed that over 1.25 million people in the UK are struggling with one, and rates are continually rising.
UK hospital admissions for eating disorders have increased by 84% in the last 5 years, and within the same period, boys and men have seen a 128% increase in admissions. Since the pandemic alone, eating disorders have increased by 42% in teenage girls specifically (30% higher than expected). Yet despite these sobering statistics, individuals of all backgrounds and identities face numerous barriers to support.
Early and effective treatment is vital if the risk of lives being lost or impaired is to be reduced. However, access to specialist treatment varies markedly across England and waiting times can delay the provision of appropriate intervention.
Recognised as the UK’s sole CQC-rated ‘Outstanding’ eating disorder clinic, Orri stands among the top 1% of all health and social care services in England, setting the standard for recovery-focused eating disorder treatment in the UK. The clinic’s team of multidisciplinary expert clinicians have dedicated their careers to working collaboratively with clients, placing a strong emphasis on partnership at the core of their approach.
The clinic was founded by Kerrie Jones, a leading Psychotherapist in the treatment of eating disorders, and previous lecturer on an MSc in Attachment Studies at Roehampton University.
Kerrie has delivered training throughout the UK on Eating Disorders and Attachment and is a former Eating Disorder Lead at a leading eating disorder service where she worked with clients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The culmination of this work – along with feedback and experiences of clients and colleagues Kerrie has worked with over the last 20 years – paved the way for the formation of Orri.
The new clinic is located in the renowned Harley Street Medical Area (HSMA), home to over 5,000 medical specialists and 250 clinics. The area brings together a community of healthcare professionals who provide access to some of the best medical treatments and services in the world and are at the forefront of advancing global medical practices in London. Today the healthcare district remains synonymous with medical excellence, known for housing a unique collection of hospitals, clinics and specialists who deliver outstanding patient care.
