New L2 decontamination qualification launched for sterile services technicians from Dynamic Training and Eastwood Park
The first funded apprenticeship programme for sterile services technicians at Level 2 is now being delivered by two leading training providers, Dynamic Training and Eastwood Park and is ideal for sterile services technicians looking for a formal national qualification.
The Level 2 Diploma in healthcare science (HCSA) forms part of a 12-month apprenticeship programme with the focus on delivering safe patient care for those working in hospitals, general practice and other healthcare settings and all areas of healthcare science.
HCSAs are responsible for a wide range of low risk, routine technical and scientific procedures and this programme is designed to recognise and assess competencies in core skills, illustrated by five mandatory units:
There are 11 other units from which learners select those most relevant to their role. These range from an introduction to decontamination science, receiving, cleaning and disinfection of reusable medical devices to managing product release of flexible endoscopes and more. In total 40 credits need to be achieved, of which 14 will be earned from the mandatory units and 26 from optional credits.
Lisa Slevin, Eastwood Park’s Learning & Development Manager, is delighted to be working in partnership with Dynamic Training to deliver this most relevant decontamination qualification: “It has been some time since such a pertinent Level 2 qualification has been available for hospitals and those working across healthcare services and where they will be able to benefit from a fully funded programme.”
