The new SECURITHERM EP mixer from DELABIE supports the cornerstones of care
DELABIE has launched a new mechanical mixer tap specifically for healthcare facilities. Featuring pressure-balancing (EP) technology, its ergonomic design also supports hygiene, both internally and externally. Moreover, it is easy to operate and simple to install – the ideal solution for care settings.
Infection control
The SECURITHERM EP mixer has been specifically designed with infection control in mind, eliminating any pitted external surfaces and minimising the number of joins which provide niches for dirt and bacteria. Durable and non-porous, the chrome-plated brass body withstands intensive use and regular cleaning. However, smooth internal surfaces are equally important. Recent years have seen taps with rough interiors (created by the casting process) replaced by smooth interiors to improve infection control. The SECURITHERM EP has smooth, narrow internal tubes to reduce the volume of water in the body and accelerate water flow, minimising scale and biofilm development inside the tap which are a source of shelter and nutrients for bacteria.
Featuring a high spout, the SECURITHERM EP has a significant drop height to prevent retro-contamination. The spout is fitted with a BIOSAFE hygienic outlet made from Hostaform®. Its interior is smooth with no internal grid and nowhere for drips or scale to adhere, reducing bacterial development considerably. The result is a laminar flow with no splashing. The BIOSAFE outlet is also compatible with point-of-use filters if contamination occurs.
Anti-scalding safety
In healthcare facilities, hot water is a typical method for controlling waterborne bacteria such as Legionella in the system. However, this presents a scalding risk to the user. The SECURITHERM EP mixer has a pressure-balancing mechanism that blends hot water to a safe temperature. This mechanism adapts to pressure variations at the hot and cold water inlets, delivering a constant, safe temperature at the outlet. If the cold water supply pressure drops suddenly, the mechanism reduces the hot water to a trickle, significantly reducing the scalding risk (and vice versa).
The SECURITHERM EP has an integrated pre-set maximum temperature limiter which the user cannot override. However, if a thermal shock is required for curative purposes, the limiter can be overridden by pressing on the red button behind the control lever with a pointed tool.
Comfort
In patient care areas, the mixer’s dimensions must be suitable for the user’s range of movement. The SECURITHERM EP mixer has a higher, longer spout to allow thorough washing without touching the basin or the spout. It also features the Hygiene control lever which is specifically designed for healthcare professionals and people with reduced mobility. It can be operated by fist, wrist or elbow without manual contact.
Combining anti-scalding safety, infection control and user comfort – the new SECURITHERM EP mechanical mixer from DELABIE is ideal for healthcare facilities.
