Dean Forbes from Olive House wins ‘Rising Star’ and Meadow House Nursing Home receives ‘highly commended’ for ‘Excellent person centred care and support’
Healthcare Homes Group, which is a provider of residential, nursing and domiciliary care services, is proud to announce it has received two accolades at the prestigious Norfolk Care Awards 2019.
Dean Forbes, who works at Olive House care home in Newton Flotman, was announced as the winner of the Rising Star award, while the outstanding-rated Meadow House Nursing Home in Swaffham was awarded ‘highly commended’ in the person centred care category.
The awards were announced at a gala presentation event held on Thursday 21st February at the Sprowston Manor Hotel and was hosted by Reverend Richard Coles, formerly from the 1980s band The Communards, now Vicar of Finedon.
The Norfolk Care Awards showcase excellence and demonstrate a commitment to delivering excellence and quality care and support services across Norfolk. They celebrate a wealth of inspiration and innovation across Norfolk and they reward those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care in the region.
The Rising Star award is presented to an individual who is a relative newcomer to the Health and Social Care sector, delivering social care or health services for no longer than eighteen months, yet demonstrates an understanding and empathy with people who use care and support services.
Winners were chosen because they have shown that they have the potential to develop and are committed to providing an excellent standard in the future, and recognising those who inevitably go the extra mile.
Kerry Gooda, Manager at Olive House and who nominated Dean for the award said, “We are absolutely delighted and very proud for Dean; he is a very worthy winner. He has made an incredible impact at Olive House care home, despite only being in his post for nine months.
“Nothing is too much trouble for Dean; every day he takes time to listen to each resident and never makes assumptions about what they would like.”
Kerry describes him as “having a sixth sense, knowing when someone is under stress, and he will ‘swoop in’ to try and ease the pressure for them. Despite the demands that people can make of him he never complains or moans.’
“Dean is nothing short of outstanding. I’m continually amazed that he has come into the home and made such an incredible impact, despite having no care experience whatsoever. Everyone here, every resident and every staff member, is so fond of Dean and he is a core part of the Olive House family. We are extremely proud and delighted that he has been recognised for his contribution. He truly is a rising star and we all congratulate his achievement and feel privileged to have him in our home.”
Commenting on the nominees, the judges said “Every shortlisted nominee was a worthy winner as they all had so many positive attributes and all are a credit to the social care profession.” Presenting the award was Jan Burns, Chair of the National Dignity Council, who sponsored the award.
Accepting the award Dean said “I am honoured; I work with a fantastic team and everyone makes Olive House the care home we are. It’s not just about me tonight, but the whole team.”
Meadow House Nursing Home in Swaffham provides nursing support to people living with physical, neurological and complex conditions. Rated as Outstanding by the CQC, the home has previously been recognised in both county and national awards including the Care Home Awards, Norfolk Care Awards and the Stars of Norfolk & Waveney. The team was delighted to be recognised once again for its caring person-centred approach efforts at this year’s Norfolk Care Awards.
