Getinge announces the launch of its latest innovation in ICU ventilation – Neural Pressure Support (NPS) – available for both invasive and non-invasive ventilation. Building on its most personalized ventilation modes, NAVA and NIV NAVA, these two new NPS modes offer clinicians more options to provide personalized ventilation that aims to protect both the lungs and diaphragm.
For years, Getinge has been market-driving when it comes to developing first-of-its-kind intensive care ventilation modes. Today, the medtech company is introducing NPS and NIV NPS to widen its groundbreaking neurally controlled ventilation offering.
“With the introduction of NPS, we are taking the next step forward in ICU ventilation. The NPS modes have been designed to further help clinicians to improve patient outcomes by offering lung- and diaphragm-protective ventilation. Our goal is to provide clinicians with the cutting-edge modalities they need to offer the best possible care for their patients,” says Cecilia Sjöstedt, Vice President Critical Care at Getinge.
The new Neural Pressure Support modes give clinicians the opportunity to deliver classical pressure support ventilation, enhanced with neural trigger and breath termination in synchrony with diaphragmatic muscle activity. This may be particularly beneficial for complex and challenging ICU patient groups, such as obstructive COPD patients requiring instant synchronization and fast pressurization, and restrictive ARDS patients with stiff lungs and an excessive respiratory drive.
“By leveraging key principles of NAVA, where the ventilator is fully synchronized by the patient’s neural respiratory drive, NPS also fills a gap between conventional and neurally controlled ventilation where the clinicians can take back control over the inspiratory pressure support delivery in situations where they find it desired,” explains Cecilia. “This innovation broadens the options to protect both the lungs and diaphragms, allowing for successful weaning and liberation of the patient as early as established protocols and guidelines allow. Together with NAVA, NPS unlocks the full power of synchrony.”
