Cygnet Health Care now has the only three learning disability hospitals in the country to have achieved this extremely rare accolade
Cygnet Health Care is delighted to announce that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated the care provided by Cygnet Cedars, a specialist learning disability (LD) hospital for men in Birmingham as ‘Outstanding’ across all five of the CQC’s assessment categories. The hospital joins Cygnet Sherwood Lodge and Cygnet Elms as the only three LD hospitals in the country to be awarded this extraordinary accolade.
Cygnet Cedars has maintained its overall ‘Outstanding’ rating from its previous CQC inspection and it is now rated as ‘Outstanding’ across all of the CQC’s categories for caring, safe, effective, responsive and well-led services.
The CQC’s inspection report for Cygnet Cedars praises the hospital’s ‘genuinely open culture’ and ‘innovative approaches to care’. It highlights how staff treat service users ‘with kindness, respected their privacy and dignity and understood the individual needs of patients’. Employees are widely commended in the report from the ‘compassionate and professional’ leadership through to all staff who empower patients ‘to have a voice and realise their potential.’
The CQC has also highly commended the proactive support Cygnet Cedars staff receive to acquire new skills and share best practice, and recognises the continuing development of staff competence and knowledge as being integral to ensuring high quality care.
Victor Mudrarikwa, Hospital Manager at Cygnet Cedars said: “The Cygnet Cedars team, including our service users, are immensely proud that the CQC has recognised the team’s commitment to innovative approaches to care and working with and alongside our patients to deliver an outstanding service.
“This is a remarkable achievement for everyone involved and is a fitting testament to the excellent treatment and support we provide”.
Dr Tony Romero, CEO of Cygnet Health Care said: “Many congratulations to all staff at Cygnet Cedars who thoroughly deserve this fantastic acknowledgement. The dedication and enthusiasm they show in caring for some of society’s most vulnerable people is an inspiration to us all.
“Cygnet Health Care is proud to run the only three learning disability hospitals in the entire country to be rated as ‘Outstanding’ across all five assessment categories.”
