Nearly a third of all American adults struggle with sleep on a regular basis for a variety of reasons. However, there is one thing that you could add to your bedroom to help you to live a happier and healthier life. That thing? Live plants. So, how do plants help you sleep?
Having plants in your house, and especially your bedroom can help you to get higher quality sleep by cleaning the air your breathing and helps you to sleep for longer periods of time.
Plants like ivy, gerbera daisies, and potted mums do a great job of cleaning the air around you without requiring a ton of work to keep up with them. This is because they take in the most carbon dioxide and put out the cleanest oxygen. They’re also pretty plants! That doesn’t mean that you can’t put plants in that you like such as succulents or lilies.
However, you need to make sure that they are safe for any animals that you have in your house. Different plants can be toxic to cats and dogs, so do your research or keep them well out of reach of your furry friends.
Improve mental health
Humans just feel better when they spend time around plants. According to Scientific American, spending as little as 3 to 5 minutes looking at trees, flowers, and water can help to reduce anger, anxiety, and pain without taking a single pill.
Taking care of these plants can also be an exercise in mindfulness that will help you to relax before bed every night. If you add these to your room while also working to take care of your mental health, you should see vast improvements in the way your brain treats you.
Improve physical healing
Other studies have found that hospital patients with windows that looked out onto trees healed faster on average than someone who looked out at a brick wall. They also needed less in the way of pain medication and had fewer complications after surgery. If you struggle with chronic pain or joint pain, you might find this will help you out significantly.
This also applies to people who have not been in surgery. You can improve your general physical wellness by keeping plants around you during the day and overnight, and by spending the time to take care of these plants. It helps you to get more exercise and be more comfortable when you do actually go to bed
How can you bring plants into your bedroom?
There are tons of ways to bring plants into your bedroom to help you to live a better life. You can even have plants in a very small space like a dorm room.
You want to bring in enough plants to help yourself feel better and decorate the space well, but not too many so that the room feels cluttered. You can do this by building yourself a small window box or a terrarium or using any vertical space you have in your room to hang a hanging planter.
